Hello! My name is Paige Terrazas and the students can call me Miss Paige. I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I remember and I am ready to get into the classroom. I love teaching elementary-aged students, specifically fifth graders. I also have a passion for teaching Special Education! There is nothing better than helping students learn and understand concepts that will help them succeed in the future.
Pedagogical Beliefs
I have wanted to be a teacher since I was very young. In as early as the first grade, I was being praised by my teachers for constantly gravitating towards students who needed more help in the classroom, especially those with disabilities. Because of this, I realized my desire to be a Special Education teacher. I believe every child has the right to an education, and I believe they need to receive teaching in a way that most benefits them. Over the years, I have witnessed teachers not trying their absolute hardest to influence their students' learning. It shocks me that those who are not equipped to teach students with disabilities still end up doing so. Because of my experiences with all students, I am dedicated to ensuring that my students receive an education that is beneficial to them and prepares them for the rest of their educational journey, and for their lives as growing individuals too!
Technology in the Classroom
As technology advances, and our society becomes more and more active users, I believe it is necessary to incorporate technology into my classroom. Not only will I incorporate it with the use of iPads and various applications, I will teach my students how to navigate the internet and how to be conscious and smart users when dealing with it. Given that my students will have to use technology in their future, it is important to start teaching them the skills and knowledge they need in order to be successful, at a young age.
My Education
In 2017, I graduated from Lemont High School, which is located in a suburb of Chicago. I'm working towards graduating from Indiana University in 2021 with my Bachelors degree in both Elementary and Special Education.
My Family
I grew up about 45 minutes from Chicago, Illinois in a town called Lemont. I live with my mom, dad and brother, and my grandparents live right next door! My brother Jake is three years older than me and working to obtain his degree in Sports Business from Saint Louis University. My family still lives in Lemont, where Jake and I both attended early childhood, elementary, middle AND high school. Family is very important to me and they have influenced my life in numerous ways. Each member of my family has helped me get where I am today, and I thank them for that.
My Hobbies
I love watching Netflix and going to the movies. I also prioritize being active. I played basketball since I was in fourth grade and still enjoy doing so today. I hope to eventually coach a school team during my career as a teacher.
